| The GIS lab conference room is a resource available to all laboratory employees. Anyone in need of its use is suggested to sign via the new on-line conference room sign up page. Whenever the conference room is not signed out the conference room computer can be used by any lab employee, but that employee must vacate the room ten minutes previous to the signed out time. In the event the room needs to be used for a conference while an employee is using the conference room computer, the conference takes priority and the employee must vacate the room unless otherwise said that he/she can stay by the conference participants. | Food and drink is permitted in the GIS lab as long as it doesn't interfere with others work and as long as all refuse from the food and drink are disposed of or recycled properly. All spills must be cleaned up immediately and any spills which could potentially cause staining or damage to laboratory property must be reported to building housekeeping so that they can clean the spill properly. | |||||||||||

The GIS lab HP 755 plotter, HP 3500CP plotter, GIS lab HP 3mPlus
and HP 2250 Business Inkjet printers
are available for use by all employees and students of Complex Systems
Research Center. Non-CSRC employees are allowed to use these devices
based on the laboratory's
Large Format Printing Policies .
For more information, see the GIS lab manager.
Any anticipated excess plotter or printer use which will run down any plotter or printer supplies quickly should be reported to the lab manager in order to avoid running out of media. Bond paper is kept in the HP755 36 inch swath plotter unless special plotting is to be completed. In this event the person completing this special plotting should either try to complete this plotting after 5:00 pm when plotter use is minimal or check with all usual users of the plotter to see if it's okay to switch the bond paper out for other media. 36 inch glossy paper is kept in the HP3500CP plotter on a regular basis, but can be swapped out when ever the plotter is not in use. The HP3500CP plotter accommodates both 54 inch and 36 inch rolls of bond paper, glossy paper, and mylar. Swapping or replacing of any media for either the HP755 plotter or the HP3500CP plotter is the responsibility of the person completing the plotting. All empty paper boxes and packing should be disposed of properly. All queries for help, information or requests for media regarding the plotter should be directed to the laboratory manager. 8.5 X 11 inch bond paper is kept in both the HP 4mplus printer and the Sieko printer unless special plotting is to be completed. Swapping or replacing of any media and tonner for these printers is the responsibility of the person completing the printing. All empty paper boxes and packing should be disposed of properly by the person opening new containers. All queries for help, information or requests for media regarding the GIS lab printers should be directed to the laboratory manager. | Plotter Info
Plot Sizes: Though media roles are 36 inches wide all plots must conform to a 34.8 inch maximum width on atleast one axis to stay within the minimum forced margins of the hardware. *Large 50 inch (48.8 inch maximum width on at least one axis) paper is available for oversized plots. Turnaround Time Please be advised that though print jobs are usually printed on the day they are recieved they may take up to one week tobe printed due to high demand at certain times of year. Please plan appropriately. All persons submitting a print job are responsible for picking up their prints in room 253 upon completion of their job. Printouts will be held for one week before being recycled. Special scheduling arrangements for large print jobs can be made by special request. | Recycling, Trash, and Cleanliness
|
Trash and recycling pickup is conducted by house keeping about once per week, though in the event that any recycling receptacle fills up it's suggested that the most recent person doing the filling please empty the receptacle into the larger bins by the women's bathroom. Any person using lab resources is responsible for the cleanliness of the lab. In the event that an employee empties a box or any package for any reason including the replenishing of plotter or printer paper, or supplies that employee must dispose of all of the packaging properly. All boxes must be crushed down and placed by the large bins by the women's bathroom and all paper, plastic or styrafoam packaging must be disposed of in the lab recycling or trash bins. Laboratory flat space is a common resource to all lab employees. All lab employees should try to respect everyone's use of this common space by putting away or disposing of all maps, posters or papers which are not needed, which are not currently in use or will not be in use within the following day. Anyone requiring vacuuming should contact building house keeping. | Seating
| Four seats within the laboratory are designated seats for full time employees and should not be occupied by hourly employees unless under special circumstances deemed by the full time occupants. The seats occupied by Stanley Glidden, Jennifer Lessard, Michael Routhier and Spencer Walker are designated seating. Occasionally other seats will be for designated use by visiting researchers on a temporary basis for up to six months. The seats in front of CSRC common machines such as Pyramid and the GIS lab MAC are available to all CSRC employees and students. The machines at these seats and all peripherals are also for common use by all CSRC employees and students. All other seats and computers within the laboratory are available to employees funded under grants which fund the GIS lab. Seating at digitizing boards is not limited to only digitizing activities, but should be used for non-digitizing activities only in the event where there are no other seats available. Seating within the conference room is covered within the conference room policy listing. Any seating conflicts should be directed to the GIS lab manager. | Security | |||||||||||
| Security within the GIS lab has never been a problem, but all employees are asked to make sure that the main laboratory doors are locked behind them on their way out if they're last to leave in the evenings. To prevent any problems all laptop computers are to be locked down if left in the laboratory over night. |
