GIS Laboratory Saco River Adventure

Friday, August 23rd

The Laboratory for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis (GIS Lab) is planning to return to the Saco river once again for it's fourth annual Saco River Canoe Adventure on Friday, August 23rd. The lab is planning to canoe from Saco Bound Base in Center Conway, NH to the landing approximately 11 mile journey downstream. Saco Bound provides rentals of canoes and a shuttle service back to the base camp. For everyone who doesn't own a canoe, canoe rentals from Saco Bound are about $25.00. This cost can be shared by two individuals and includes complimentary parking. If you are planning on comming with us on this year's fun filled adventure please take note of the day's schedule below.

Canoe Trip Schedule (Friday, August 23rd)

         7:45am    Meet at CSRC GIS Lab and arrange carpooling, canoe
                   transit, etc....

	 8:00am    Set off promptly from UNH.

         9:30am    Meet in Whittier NH for breakfast at McDonalds on Rt.16.

	10:00am    Set off from McDonalds.

	11:00am	   Meet at Saco Bound Base Camp in North Conway NH, rent
   		   necessary canoes and drive to the canoe put it dock.

	12:00pm    Put in our canoes and begin paddling.

	 1:00pm    Have picnic lunch on a sand bar.

   	 5:00pm	   Take out our boats and catch shuttle back to the Saco
                   Bound Base Camp.

         6:30pm    Meet for B.B.Q Dinner and huge hot fudge sundaes at the
                   Yankee Smoke House in Whittier NH on Rt. 16 across
		   from McDonalds.	

If you're interested in comming with us please be sure to let Michael at mike@eos.sr.unh.edu know so that he can help to coordinate carpooling and the sharing of canoes. Also, for those who are interested, some of us are planning on stopping at the Yankee Smoke House after our day of canoeing for an excellent bar-b-que dinner and huge hot fudge sundaes. Yum!!!!

Directions to Saco Bound Base Camp


1. Head North on Madbury Rd. toward US-4.
2. Turn LEFT onto NH-155
3. Turn RIGHT onto TOWNHALL RD.
4. TOWNHALL RD. becomes MILL HILL RD.
5. Turn LEFT onto OLD STAGE RD.
6. Turn LEFT onto NH-9.
7. Turn RIGHT onto NH-125.
8. Take the RT-16 NORTH ramp.
9. Merge onto NH-16 NORTH (toll road)
10. Take the US-202 EAST/RT-11 EAST ramp towards E. ROCHESTER (RT-125)/SANFORD ME.
11. Turn RIGHT onto US-202.
12. Turn LEFT onto NH-125.
13. Turn LEFT to take the RT-16 NORTH ramp.
14. Merge onto NH-16 (toll road)
15. Stay straight to go onto NH-113.
16. Stay straight to go onto MILL ST.
17. MILL ST. becomes BROWNFIELD RD.
18. Follow map for the next 0.28 miles
